Obviously RMT members within southern or GTR voted for action short of a strike with regards the up and coming industrial action on 21st June. Does this mean that GTR will be operating services over this period and why did staff not follow the other TOCs ? I’m assuming they have just come out of a 3 year deal which was worth 7% . Am I right ?

No, they will be running 20% of service like most of the other TOC's as because Network Rail are on strike it doesn't make any difference if GTR voted for strike action or not.

Where are you coming from to get to Brighton/Portsmouth?
It's not the case that RMT members at GTR didn't vote for strike action, it's that there appears to have been a mass outbreak of apathy, so the thresholds weren't met.
For a ballot to succeed, there MUST be a turnout of at least 50% AND at least 40% of those eligible to vote have to vote Yes.
To put it another way, if those 5 "spoiled" ballots had been unequivocal "Yes" votes, it would have succeeded.

Are they still going to do 'action short of strike' ?
I'm sure that's quite a big spanner in GTR's resilience planning anyway.

Hmm, I'll have to check tommorow if you can get to Brighton or Portsmouth from Basingstoke. I reckon the SWML will be open to Waterloo, and then you'll defintley be able to go to London Bridge to get a train to Brighton. As long as your are travelling between 7am and 7pm on strike days, and the first and last trains will be later/earlier than those times.

I would imagine NR will be able to staff Bridges ASC & Bridges ROC with a Thameslink London Bridge to Brighton service every half hour 0700 to 1900 but will have to leave most of the junctions / complex stations in auto mode so nothing on the branches. If they can run through the core would have thought the likes of St Pancras and Thameslink would have to be closed as underground stations need min staffing but doubt they will best to keep services self contained to each side of the river.
