Southern EMU in Sweden

A little while ago someone showed me a photo of a mk1 EMU which had been exported abroad for some sort of testing. It was a MK1 emu and had a pantograph, if anyone else has information on this I would be grateful.

Never mind found it, for those interested it was ex 4 CEP 932545 which was exported to Sweden and was even given a pantograph!

Wikipedia says

• 1545 – Converted to 3 car test unit 932545 and exported to Sweden. Converted to AC Overhead Line and DC Dual Voltage and was a test bed for IGBT and Adtranz Traction Package. Scrapped there in 2002.

A 4-VEP, 3810, was at Siemens at Wildenrath in Germany 2002/2003 for testing in connection with the design of the 444/450 Desiros, but it didn't get a panto.

Blood and Custard notes for unit 1545:

Due to defects TSO 70287 removed from unit for a few weeks from Dec‑88 until 2-Feb-89 and unit ran as 3 CEP usually on Strood to Paddock Wood services.

Unit off lease from 8-Apr-97 and to Chart Leacon for removal of TSO 70287. Remaining three coaches by road to Crewe for modifications including fitting of pantograph to TBC in connection with new LTS stock prototype tests. 70287 subsequently also moved to Crewe Adtranz, whilst the remaining three cars were shipped to the ABB works at Vasteras in Sweden for modifications. TSO 70287 moved to Old Dalby for Cup & Cone crash tests late in 1998 and scrapped at MC Metals, Glasgow 25-Apr-99. Coaches in Sweden broken‑up during 2002.

Hitachi fitted their traction package to a 310 or 312 unit, but I don't think it ever went out of the UK (Japan would have been interesting!).
