No service for the rest of the day between Eastbourne and Hastings due to a major power failure in the Cooden Beach area.

This will be a fun journey home for some after attending the tennis today plus the standard rush hour workers.

Are there no back up systems in place to prevent this happening and knocking out all the signalling and level crossings?

They wouldn't have used the train this morning to get there in the first place. The failure has been in place since yesterday

Southern practice was to derive two signalling supplies from the traction system with a backup system from the local distribution operator but this fault appears to be on the lineside cabling which doesn't have any redundancy. NR SE Twitter is saying the fault should be fixed by 1500 so its pretty poor if it has been and Southern don't reinstate some services.
