It will be interesting to see if the stored 465/2s return. My money is on that they probably won’t, especially as they’ve now gone from warm to cold store, but one never quite knows!
Yes I don't see 465/2s returning, but the 5x 466s in store would be more likely if Networkers return to the MDE line when many of the 377s SE have go to Southern as part of this wider cascade/withdrawal, as the MDE line is 6 car maximum without SDO through to Ashford, so more 466s would help, but I don't know for sure.

Have or which is the case very most likely 455835 and 455840 been withdrawn from service because haven't heard reports of them running around or seen in service this week. Have travelled the remaining ones in service all week.
Along with 455846 and 455811 as we all know have also gone. More and most likely as 455835 was with 455811 streatham Hill weekend just gone.
More in most likely the case it has.
However if 455835 and 455840 have gone when was the Las days of them in revenue earning service please.

Here are the class 455 diagrams for the last day, Saturday 14th May 2022.
Please note whilst these are planned workings, on the day it is possible that changes could be made.
Last passenger departures from London are 00:25 Victoria - Norwood Junction and 00:25 London Bridge - Selhurst

Happy Hunting ;)
What time does the 00:25 from London Victoria arrive at Norwood Junction?

What time does the 00:25 from London Bridge arrive at Selhurst?

I am wondering which of these will be the last 455 service.

I might try to be on one of these although it will probably mean taking a taxi home.

They’ll both go into Selhurst Depot to attach to each other and then at some point next week go ECS to Stew Lane for onwards movement to the scrapyard. A real shame not a single vehicle is being saved for any ‘unusual’ reuse really, especially when you consider how many Mark 3s and Pacers found their way into schools.

Many thanks for the information. I shall see if i can take one of these journeys. I will definitely be out taking rides on them earlier in the day anyway. The last time i did a final ever service it was the last ever 460 in 2012 in the early hours of the morning. It was very quiet with hardly any other enthusiasts onboard. I wonder whether these last two 455 will be busy with enthusiasts.

I'll have a look Saturday morning. Never really liked the 455s but it would be rude not to say goodbye to the EE507 motors that have powered so many Southern units for 75 years.
Indeed and as well as the EE507 motors mustn't forget the Westinghouse compressors, camshaft equipment and MG sets were all recycled, or more accurately upcycled by refurbishing the equipment using modern insulating materials to improve reliability, from previous slam door units (SUB/EPB's) but the first incarnation of this configuration dates back to 1949 so the last link back to the Southern Railway still on the main line network.

Yeah, it's a real shame. Though I wouldn't be surprised if one if a preservation proposal develops after they go off lease, especially as it will take a while to send them all for scrap.

Far too late for a preservation proposal now though. The driving cars of 317345 and 457001 keep the basic shape of a 455/8 in preservation in any case without the mutilated front end. There are other units with EE507s in preservation.

Those two cars also have a more original interior with original bulkheads, which none of the 455s have.

Not if u turn up at newport with a wad of cash. Whwn u look though at the struggles with preserving EPBs and the SUB, you can expect that a saved 455 will rot eventually and become unloved. Im not even sure how easy it is in say, heritage railway use, to run these loco hauled. You couldnt open the doors from the cab from a steam loco for a start lol

Oh for crying out loud. I didn’t start going on about a whole 4 car being preserved or whatever did I?

The comment I made was it’s a shame a single car hadn’t been recycled for use anywhere. With the Pacers and some of the Mark 3s they’ve turned up at restaurants, camp sites and schools. It would be fitting to see a vehicle or two repurposed in or around South London somewhere.

Didn’t think old compressors were recycled as replacements will have needed to be higher speed to power all the ancillaries not present on the slammers

Yes they were recycled compressors. Traction motors, reverser, field divert controller, as well as I remember. Maybe more.

Even class 508 had recycled compressors.

Ok thanks , I’ll stand corrected, think I’m confusing them with the 319s

66701 5Q55 1038 Stewart's Lane to Newport Docks confirmed approximately 10 minutes llate through iver with the Arlington vans and 455831 455827. 6 in just over a week. Only
40 left. Just wondering if Gbrf railfreight can clear 40 units for scrap. Quicker than rogs 40 365 unit scrap moves which in end turned around 6 months.
However if 2 moves a week equals 4 a week so 10 weeks in total. Approx end July give or take a little longer the August date as already mentioned on here seems spot on.

There were at least 3 Southern departures using 455s seen at Clapham Junction within just 20 minutes yesterday evening, with one passing not-in-service with farewell labels on the door.

Combined with the whole fleet of SWR 455s behind, it really doesn't look like them going to the graveyard soon.
