Southern class 313 refurbishment.

Yesterday i was on a 313 (i forgot to check the unit number) on the 18:28 Seaford to Brighton 18:58 service and i noticed that when the doors were released they made a five high low beeps (kind of similar to a yodalarm at a level crossing). It is certainly a different noise to any other door realease sound on other trains. So i am wondering has this unit been refurbished? If so was it just the doors and other DDA work or were others things done as well?

Yes the 313 units that are being refurbished have door beeps
A unit should be coupled up to some bariers right now at lovers walk as yesterdays drag went back as light loco

New door handles between coaches and I think new door open buttons

Not sure if seat covers replaced

Just a general bring up to DDA stuff. Addition of Door Sounds for release, new LED lighting. New gangway door handles and re-positioning and lengthening of some door grab rails.

What about the seats they look pretty tired and run down

How can you tell? The Southern seats look like that when new with that awful covering they use!

I have just noticed recently that different refurbished Southern 313s have different door release sounds. Some of the refurbished units have five high low beeps (kind of similar to a Level Crossing yodalarm) while some of the other refurbished units have three beeps (the same sort of sound that SWT 455/456/458 and lots of other stock use). Does anyone know why this is? Is this just another case of Southern being so incompetent that different refurbished units have had different sounds programmed in?

I noticed its the same with the 315's as well at TFL Rail. Hopefully they don't do this to the 455's if they get done, and use the one which the SWT ones used.

I think this is something to do with DDA (disability) compliance? When the 465/9 DDA compliant lavs were put in the door sounds were changed- they are much louder.

I would think after the 313's are all done, as there are more of the 455's to do. They will definitely receive them as their future looks to be secure until 2021 at the earliest.
