I couldn't find any mention of this by searching, but apologies if it has already been brought up anywhere!

I commute on Southern Class 313 units every day. This evening, for the first time as far as I can remember, the middle set of doors in the second (i.e. middle) coach had prominent red markings above them and to the left and right. I presume they were vinyls. My guess would be that they signified the door closest to the wheelchair space; would that be the meaning? Unfortunately I didn't see which unit it was.

I must admit, it brought back slight memories of the yellow and red markings above the windows on slam-door stock (Class 421/423?), signifying First Class and buffet facilities respectively!

That's definitely the meaning on the 377s, I'd be surprised if the 313s are colour coded differently.

Indeed you are correct. They started trialing one at the beginning of March to help not only passengers but the conductor and platform staff to locate the wheelchair access space easier. Although it's the middle coach the amount of times you go to the wrong door first. As i do not work with 313's now i am not sure how many units they have done.

Are the SN 455s marked with the red door surrounds? I'd have thought that would be more useful especially when they are running in multiple?

Good stuff, thanks. This morning we had a 377 (unusually!) on the 0807 ex-Hove, but tonight's 1726 ex-Worthing was a 313 as usual and it had the new markings. So I imagine they are being applied gradually across the whole fleet.

313215 has definitely been done, it has been following me about for the last week or so.
