Any tips for the assessment days held in Croydon? Also if operating on metro routes where are people based? New to world of trains so any info gratefully received. Thanks

Hello Victoria123. When did you receive your email for the assessment?

I don’t need to go as I’ve passed it last year so I gotta wait for the interviews. When’s yours
8 May, do they hold the interviews separately? The paperwork I have says you may or may not get an interview on the same day?!

Yh as it is a long day. I think last year after every assessment if you didn’t pass you would get sent home. The last assessment finished at around 3 I believe

There will be more!
Thousands of applications so some probably not even read yet. People will be getting replies for months to come.
I'm curious to know in what order they read them: first-come-first-served, alphabetical, random, who knows? Anyone?
Quite important to the outcome really, as they sometimes withdraw vacancies once they've hit their numbers even if not all applicants have completed the process...
Good luck - I'm pretty sure you're at an advantage.

Thanks for this comment. Very reassuring for those of us yet to hear back! Are the rumours true that SR/GTR are oversubscribed with qualified drivers?

I have no inside information, but as GTR ran a big recruitment drive early last year and I think scrapped plans to invite further applicants in August as so many applied and passed assessment from the first intake I'd imagine most of their routes should be replete for the next few years. As a result I was a bit surprised they were advertising again, but the existence of the Metro vacancies tends to indicate those specific routes aren't oversubsribed! Of course, selection and training takes so long that they have to try to predict need some way ahead, which complicates things. It also seems highly probable that the franchise will change in the fairly near future, but I presume drivers would be TUPE'd over to any new franchisee - unless anyone knows any different? GTR was criticised in some report not so long ago for not having MORE drivers, and I understand reliance on overtime was evident during the industrial action. I suppose also that having a management contract means they have less incentive than a conventional franchisee to avoid recruitment/training expenditure which might ultimately benefit competitors.
