They seem to be recruiting alot. More then other companies. I saw the platform vacancies, they seemed to be really understaffed?

Out of all the TOCs southern seem to take on the most trainees. The last drive was due to start training begining of september so it seems they need to fill up the course with this as it rare for it to be structured as it is giving the dates of assessments, interviews and course start dates

The training pay is low compared to London Midland & First, you'd think that the additional expense of living in London would be reflected really.

Still, I guess the die hards will take a pittance if it means they become a driver.

p.s. I've gone for it. dunno how I'll afford to house / feed the family for a while but I'm sure I will think of something!

A lot of people go into the job in your situation. Obviously the final salary can for some make up for the low training wage (depending what you earn now) but if you are serious about the job it is worth looking at options and discussing this with your bank-a loan to cover the year of training which you can afford to pay back once on the higher pay (not suggesting payday loans or credit cards but sort a specific loan or overdraft out with your bank who are aware if the circumstances), a mortgage holiday, selling a car if practicle (obviously you may need a car but is sometimes possible for 'multi car families'), renting a cheap bedsit during training close to the depot etc. are all options people do take to get through the training.

But it's a common issue people have with going into trainee wage from other jobs.

Caught my eye for that too, would bug a few people I know in London if I could offer a temp house/flat share where they live.

Got as far as reading the advert to see the mandatory requirement that you Must be holder of a valid PTS card...well that's me not eligible then!

Ignore that, this is a requirement after your hired (after having passed the assessment). The wording on the application is very misleading, but perhaps purposefully so, to keep application numbers down?!?

Give it a go...

Good luck to all that have applied for this!! Not many comments on this thread though, does that mean that not many have applied due to the close deadlines or is that just wishful thinking on my part?

Hi I applied but haven't herd anything yet, I've already passed all assessments with another toc, but wonder if anyone else has heard yet?
