It's normal. The whole progress of trainee train driver can take months and months. I know a lot of people who applied and gave up as another oportunity came up. Some companies are useless. You pass one stage then wait weeks, then pass another one and then they make you wait for months and at the end you find out that the course has already started, but hr deny. after all I think there are a lot better, less responsible and stresless jobs out there to keep hanging around. It's not I'm trying to put you off dude, but the recruitment for the role is really weird...

There is a reason the process takes so long. If the sifters have to read every application rather than the usual "Read 10% of them and throw the rest in the bin!!" way of working then it's going to take a while!

Dates have to then be confirmed for Interviews with Driver Managers. Driver Managers are not available to do this most days as they have got loads of other work to be doing, plus "other" "more important" things often come up unexpectedly that require the DM's attention. This could result in further delay arranging an Interview date.

After this, psychometric tests have to be booked with an independent Company. Some of these companies normally only let you book at least a month in advanced. When I booked privately with CCL they said the next available date was exactly this.

More delay comes from booking a medical, again with a private company, and again the date often has to be booked well in advanced.

After you have passed everything, you could be waiting for ages again, as a place has to be booked on a course. This can take months. Courses are only run based on PREDICTIONS of vacancies 12 months ahead of the course start date. Sometimes they get it wrong and you can get put on the waiting list for a very long time after passing everything, as by then, 4+ months could have passed.

The whole process is complicated and it is impossible for HR to run it much faster.

Somewhat a national problem, what you will find with the TOC mentioned is that they're trying to get the compliment of staff for the franchise takeover and we simply don't have the facilities to cater for such a mass recruitment.

It varies hugely within TOCs as well as between them for example. Applying in January and not hearing anything till late November when I was already half way through traction with a company that took three weeks to get me through the whole process.

Be patient do your research and don't think of it as a pay day it's a long hard road before you get your key

Hi guys,
Just had a chat with one of the guys from southern HR. There seems to be a problem with getting on the booking web site for the brighton driver role.
If you give them a ring the will book you in over the phone and email you all the gumff...
