Only realised last night that Southern have started refreshing their 377s. The interior of 377116 had totally been done up in their green colours but retaining the old Connex style tables in all four carriages rather than the ironing board seats.

Was a lot nicer and lighter and spacious than the rest of the stock and looking forward to them revamping the rest of the old Connex stock up to be honest. Reminded me more of the 171 interiors.

Great although the material is not as soft.

Was carpeting changed to the dark grey and have areas of blue/white been painted light green or do they remain blue

116 never had ironing board seats as was of a batch with low density seating throughout I think

He did say it had retained the low density seating ;)

Was on (I think) this one today.

Of note is carpets have replaced lino by the doors and all stanchions and luggage overhead strips have been painted yellow. Didn't have a chance to look at the disabled toilet to see if this has been repainted green instead of blue. Due to the bestival was so overcrowded I had to force my way on!

Very impressed. Confusing though because when you see green astroturf on a 377 you become so used to thinking the front and rear coach have the 2+2 and middle coaches 3+2

If I wasn't so aware I might think Southern were going against everyone else and reverting to low density seating!

Anyway looks very good and all seats match which they don't on the connex examples

They aren't reverting to 2+2 seats, the train already had 2+2

I travelled on 377116 today on the 0706 Southampton to Victoria. Also saw it on the 1432 Victoria to Southampton and 1713 return if this helps your confirmation.

377112 has also been refurbished.

Yes, but the green astroturf isn't as comfortable as the grey/blue/orange connex moquette. IMO in comfort terms connex 2+2 > connect 3+2 > southern 2+2 > southern 3+2.

In my experience the connect spec trains weren't obviously older than the southern spec trains, so I would have rather they hadn't been refurbished.

/1s and /3s were connex spec (well most) and are older, all be it slightly, than the Southern spec ones. They were getting fairly worn.

Indeed they aren't. Given the vast amount of people that use them, its not all that surprising :)

It is when you consider SWT's 444s, 450s and 455s are in, generally speaking, better condition despite similar ages (or refurbishment in the case of the 455s) and loading conditions.

When you consider virtually all units will somehow go through Croydon at somepoint in the day, quite often multiple times, they're in remarkable condition! ;)

The seating fabric on 377s is not very soft etc and seems to look quite worn quite easily, or is it just me? I found a similar thing on the new 09ts?
