Does anybody know what is happening there? They advertised for jobs in the ticket office starting December last year but the station is still closed. Discuss?

Maybe it missed the completion deadline so opens with the next timetable change?

NR OJP does show services calling from Sun 22nd May...

Air services to Ireland commence this coming Sunday, and the station has been ready for some time (it certainly looked that way two weeks ago). The two should be simultaneous, so unless something changes or has changed, expect services to be calling from Sunday. About time too :roll:

There are already slots provided in the timetable; this is evident in the increased six journey time from Prittlewell to Rochford (formerly four).

No plans for anything to stop before the May t/t change currently AFAIK, and the latter still hasn't been totally signed off. It was never going to be aligned with flight dates - if it was there would be absolutely zero business case for a station!

First I've heard of it; every source I've seen - admittedly, not the most reliable stuff around, mainly local media - has suggested a simultaneous opening. That would explain the discrepancy in dates though.

I don't see why it wasn't built right next to Warners Bridge personally. More of a market for local traffic than there is by simply building a huge car park well beyond the main access route to the town (the A127).

For the record, there are due to be flights seven days a week, so flight dates wouldn't be an issue. Only that as I understood it the two were to start at the same time.

Are NXEA still not happy about stopping there then? I remember some time ago (2009 maybe?) they were the only relevant party who were not keen on the idea of the station.

Not heard anything concrete yet either. Trains are stopping, just not opening doors. Station staff spent some time at Southend Vic learning dispatch and station duties, they went back a while ago now, so Airport must be spotlessly clean by now. Know there was some rumours of issues as to who keeps ticket revenue, but in all truthfulness I imagine I will be one of the last to know as usual.

As to positioning of the station, think that was more to do with the car-park being dual use with the terminal, along with the position of the business park, but suppose signalling and other black arts would have been considered too.

The station is located such that it backs on to the as yet unbuilt new terminal. USP of the airport is touchdown to platform time of 10 (yes ten) minutes, including bags. This will make it attractive for mid / east Europe flights to London, as the flights will avoid the stack for main London airports, and with reduced terminal time the time from e.g. Berlin to central London will be at least 30 mins quicker than any other route. That's the theory anyway.

Expect services to start with the May TT.

Southend don't consider Southampton to be competition; rather, a model. If somethings works at Southampton, Southend will copy it. And this is an obvious example.
