Passed my MMI today, over the moon! DMI next. Been told I’ll have that in a few months. Anyone have any DMI tips for southeastern. Ashford is my chosen depot! Thank you in advance

Congrats :) I was initially told there were no dates for my chosen depot (Dartford), and then I got a call two days later offering me a DMI date, so expect the unexpected!

They'll send through a question bank with 30 possible questions on there, and I prepped for pretty much all of them, just in case! I also did loads of research about SE on the website, printed off facts and figures, and company values, and looked up my interviewers on LinkedIn, and did my best to be as prepared as possible. Also, learn the TPWS sheet they send you, and learn it thoroughly - I was going over it pretty much every night with my partner.

For the DMI itself, just try to relax, be yourself, and don't be afraid to ask questions if you'd like the interviewers to clarify any questions they've given you. And best of luck :)

Can anybody advise what the VSE actually looks like on the day? I have the practice booklet with the dots around the squares and the matching letters exercise but I've heard this is very different to the actual test?

Yeah, the paper test isn't a very good representation of the actual test imho. I bought this software to practise with, and it was very close to the actual test: https://traineetraindriverinfo.com/product/dynamic-visual-search-train-driver-tests/

I will say that the actual test is significantly harder, imho, particularly the final section, but the software definitely helped me practice for it.

So is the actual test following the dot around a track and pressing error when it misses a stop? And the second part is matching symbols?

Applied for the position in July this year and have completed the online assessment. Careers portal says the status of my application is still in progress and I haven’t received any emails for an assessment day - any advice?

Only advice I can give it to be patient and wait. I applied for June last year and only got invited to the assesment day in July, done the MMI in August and now waiting for DMI.

Be very patient. I applied in June last year and I’m still waiting for an assessment date.

As others have said, be patient. Railway recruitment can be slow, especially for driver roles. Consider 15000 applied in June last year, around 3000 are still awaiting assessments.

Just been invited for DMI, much quicker than I thought! I know the TPWS is one of the main points as well as company knowledge but was anyone asked any questions regarding anything else or just basic interview questions?

You'll also be sent a question bank of 30 potential questions that they will pick from in the interview. Aside from that it was what I would say are general interview questions.

How long after completing MMI did it take if you don't mind me asking?

Congrats!!! How was the grey square test? See people have mentioned it’s quite dark
Thanks! I found that probably the easiest test of the day, its more just a boredom test. It's quite obvious when it turns black but what surprised me is that it doesn't turn black all that often so you just have to keep your concentration on the grey square.

Was the grey square quite dark? Seen people say it gets darker? Or is that eyes playing tricks?

It's only ever lighter grey or darker grey - anything else is your eyes playing tricks. The difference between the two shades is definitely noticeable, though after 30 minutes, your eyes might not agree, lol.

I agree, it's very easily noticeable IMO. However one lady said she went colourblind and couldn't tell the difference between the colours so YMMV.

finally got an assessment date after waiting over a year! I’ve been reading through the practice material. My question is do we do all of the assessments covered in the practice material? I don’t want to be practicing for something I won’t be using on the day. Cheers.

Yes, it was a full day of all 8 (I think?) assessments that were included in the practice materials I received. Edited to add not the MMI, as jjjjjjonny said.
