What was the advanced tests called?
VSE
Visual search exercise, you do get practice material in the welcome pack via email
It’s a lot harder on the computer, really intense
Hi all, new to the forum! thought I’d register after passing my assessment day on Tuesday!
@mickeyC I’m guessing you was one of the lucky 7 of us that got through then too.

Yes mate, I was in attendance on 18th.
Met 3 other guys that I stuck with for most of the day, unfortunately one didn’t make it to the advanced but the other 2 did.
Your not based in Dartford or Whitstable are you?

Question: I passed the test at Ashford, had an interview at depo and today I had a beautiful email saying, I passed the interview and we’ll get back to you once a position is available. My question is, is that called talent pool? Should I consider that I have a potential job?

Hey I'm new here. I will be attending assessment day this coming Tuesday 25th Nov at Ashford. I am very nervous. I've been doing some revision maybe not as much as I should of been doing. I've also been out of work for a couple years, travelling, helping family member after they had operation earlier this year. So I'm worried this could affect me but I guess they are aware of that or have at least read my application correctly otherwise I would not of been invited to assessment.
To anyone who has already attended an assessment day recently, how many other candidates were there, I'm not that great in a room full of lots of people and worry that this might affect my result. Also, anyone got any tips.
What's the interview like. Is it a full interview or do you just talk about situations you've been in that could help in being a train driver. I have a medium amount of knowledge about Southeastern's history, routes etc. Will this help at all?

I can only tell you my experience.
On my assessment day 18th Nov, there was approx 30-35 people attending the driver tests. You get split into 2 groups (paper & computer tests)
It’s all test conditions so you take a seat and tbh I didn’t really pay attention to anybody else around me, just focus on the instructions and task and you should be fine.
I doubt you’ll have time for any interview questions, the tests take up most of the day till at least 3:30-4pm.
Take snacks/food and something to drink and practice, practice, practice the example tests in the literature.

Thank you for your reply. Much appreciated. At the moment I am seeing dots from practicing the 4 dots test so much. I've probably printed out 50 sheets worth of dots to be honest.
The only tests that worry me is this dots one, the one where you will have to search a directory and listen out for tones combined at the same time and possibly the memory one as I tend to remember things I've seen a couple minutes after but not necessarily straight after.

The combined test, where you have to look through a phone directory and listen out for tones. Do you have to count both at same time or just click or mark next to the directory entries you need to find whilst listening to the tones?
Can someone please explain. I've heard multiple differences. Some other places say you have to count both mentally without marking anything down (which is impossible for me, why I'm worried) and some say they only had to mark the entries (not count them) they only had to count the tones they heard.
I really want to prepare myself properly as this is the one test that will most likely cause me to fail.

Hi I've done this test twice and you just count the number of tones you hear while looking for and marking the symbols. You don't need to count the number of symbols too, just mark them and move on. For this bit of the test there's no separate high and low tones, it's all at one level which I think makes it much easier. Both times I did it the person running the session was very clear that you have to count the tones silently in your head and are not allowed to use fingers or dot the paper or anything like that to keep track of them.

With the tones, I counted on my fingers beneath the table and used the other hand for circling the symbols. Good luck.

It was really good! It seems a long time ago now, but it went very well, and the lady doing it was lovely. I prepared answers for about 16 different possible scenarios they might have chosen to ask me about, and tried to make sure I covered the following in all my answers:
Communication
Problem solving
Fault finding
Pro-active
In control
Risk aware of situations and environment
Maintain concentration
Can work alone for long periods
Monotonous work pattern
Cope with long training periods
Handle low stimulation
I also made an additional list (some crossover with the above), again giving me things to focus on in my answers:
I can communicate effectively
I can follow strict rules and procedures
I can keep calm in an emergency
I will be able to exceed course and training demands
I am proactive and tenacious
I can work alone
And, of course, not forgetting our old friend, STAR:
S: Situation – Describe the situation YOU were in
T: Tasks – What tasks did YOU identify that were necessary to be done?
A: Action – What action did YOU take? How and Why?
R: Result – What was the outcome?
I did an SJT on the day before the interview, which they use in case they need to ask any other questions, and they let you use the notes you put down for the scenarios ahead of the interview as a reference within the interview itself. Use STAR to stay focused and on track with your answers, try to work in all the keywords that relate to each situation and show you at your best, and above all else, relax, be yourself, and the interviewer will do their best to get the best out of you

I'm prepearing my MMI, not sure when is coming. They done the opposite way, already had my DMI interview and passed!!! So happy to be honest but still MMI to do which i guess is the last filter.

Well done on passing your DMI. I'm currently awaiting MMI/DMI and I'm unsure which way round they'll be or when they'll happen. Do you have any hints/tips for the DMI?

Be yourself always and put the word “safe” before anything, make sure that they know that you are aware that it is a safety critical job.
I’m currently work with a colleague that she failed 3 times the MMI (southeastern, southern and Elizabeth line) so I’m a bit concern for the MMI.
Anyway, good luck to you and share your experience once you have your interviews please!

How did she fail it 3 times? Didn't it only just change to allow more than 2 attempts?
Honestly I don’t know, but she mentioned when she had it for Southern, it was 2 person doing the interview and 1 of them was very rough and making her feel uncomfortable ♂️

Normally only one person for MMI. I suspect some confusion between DMI and MMI.
