Hi!

Just curious if anyone knows how the door at the front of the unit on 375/377 (Southeastern and Southern) works when connected to another unit and of the cab layout! I have been on 375's when two units are coupled together and you can walk through the units through the front doors, so you walk past the cab. I wondered whether the trains had a reduced cab layout (like half size cab) in order to let passengers through it, or whether they have some kind of door system that can be used to divide the cab when it is connected to another unit. I would be interested to know if anyone has any idea, or any cab photos?!

Regards,
Tom

I'd have thought it would be much like any other unit with connecting corridors. On the 317s, you can see into the cabs as you pass between units.

There are some units on the continent that have some sort of connector with full width corrdors (and not just the old ones where the cab was mounted "high up")

What you can see does depend on companies now and varies between units on refurb aswell. FGW for example have covered over or replaced most of their sight glasses, especially on refurb stock. On 95% atleast of the units have full plastic screens now which also block off the second mans side aswell. If I'm right in thinking, part of SWTs 455 refurbs included refitting the glass to allow passengers/staff a clear view through to see who was walking through from the other end.

I'm sure I saw somewhere (possibly in a recent report on the new London Overground 378s, which have a front emergency door, but not corridor connections) that on the 375/377s, the 'side wall' between the driving position and the corridor was hinged to enlarge the driving space when the corridor was not in use. This AIUI was separate from the 'door' into the driving space with internal window in it, which you pass when going through an inter-unit corridor connection.
