Hi all,

I am been caught short faring for between my station and London Bridge. I have been doing this for a while, and got caught. I fully take responsibility for my actions and of my stupidity.

I am read the different threads regarding how to proceed when I receive the letter asking for my side of the story.

I have told the inspector that I have only been doing this for 1 week, but assume they will go over my history and hopefully allow me to pay an out of court settlement for the fees I owe.

I will keep you posted on this as I will need your support when I receive the letter.

Thank you
A

Welcome to the forum!

It sounds as though you've been engaged in fare evasion on an industrial scale, many people would say that a case likt this should end up in court and if it doesn't you do have to wonder how serious a case has to be to end up being prosecuted.

That said, Southeastern are normally prepared to offer an out of court settlement to people who co-operate with them, and who haven't come to their attention before. They will write to you in the next few weeks saying that they have received a report and ask for your version of events before they decide how to proceed.

Southeastern will probably research your online ticket purchase history and discover what you've been up to, and you've already incriminated yourself by telling the inspector that you've short fared previously.

If you are offered a settlement then expect to have to pay the cost of all the journeys made at the full Anytime rate, with no credit given for the invalid tickets you did purchase. In additiont hey will want an admin fee, typically around £150. Given the length of time you've been short faring this could be a substantial sum of money which you will have to pay in full within a few days of it being offered - payment in installments isn't allowed.

When it arrives, post a redacted copy of Southeastern's letter in this thread along with your draft reply and forum members will proof read it for you.

Do you think they will check SE keycard history?

I was using a different app and not Keycard when I was stopped
Either way it's best to be prepared to pay all of the fares you have evaded back. If they don't find all the offending, good for you - and you won't be shocked or disappointed.

To be honest, I am ready to pay for whatever they say.

I forgot to mention that the inspector did not take any information regarding my ticket or apps

If your ticket was scanned then that is all they need.

If you have your own problem, then please start a new thread so that we can help you. The original poster has not been back here for over three months, and whilst we welcome an update on their situation, that is entirely their prerogative.
