Its pretty similar to the Driver route.

There is no expectation to move to a mainline Driver role but some do make the move. Our Shunter Drivers can shunt into station limits, depending on the depot, this may also involve shunting across the running line.

The job also involves learning a strange and incomprehensible vernacular:

"Drop down to the board, when the dummy comes off it's yours". Etc.

But yes, as comUtoR says, largely the same assessments and selection process as driver.

Got invited to an assessment centre 2 weeks ago and it's this coming Friday for a Shunter Driver- Grove Park.

This will be my first assessment centre so any advice is much appreciated particularly in relation to MMI? Possible questions etc?

Done the practice tests and feel pretty happy with them.

Any current shunter drivers give me an insight into their role? Shift patterns? Training etc.
