Southeastern Question and Routing

This may seem random but thought that I'd ask here -

I have tickets from Gillingham to Chester - although Virgin trains I can only catch the specific train (I know that bit), although I have been given a timed train for the Southeastern part (in this case 5:30 Gillingham to Victoria), my question was is the Southeastern part a train that I have to catch, the reason is because I believe going via St Pancras to be quicker (it doesn't say anything about HS1).

(the above example - 0549 to St Pancras - 1F07 0528 Faversham to St Pancras International - for a train at 0710 at London Euston)

It does say VT & Connections and Booked Train Only (which I assumed to be the Virgin Train), Travelling in the past on Virgin trains never gave the specific train for Southeastern so was uncertain on this one.

Next time, book it with a via point of St Pancras if you want to go that way.

If you need multiple via points then Trainsplit will allow up to 3 via points plus 3 avoid points.

I am unsure if Southeastern would be happy for you to take a different train. I know GTR have a policy of allowing it. Perhaps you could ask them by email or Twitter and paste their response here?

Is your arrival time particularly crucial? In future if you wish to avoid extra time, there are websites that allow you to specify extra interchange time at any station you want.

In this case, I can't change the ticket (I didn't book it - I justed wanted to see if it were possible to use a different train :) than the one listed, but thanks :) )

(If i were to book it I would have taken that into account :) )

Ah OK.

It would be reasonable to allow you to take any appropriate connecting train but it would be interesting to hear if Southeastern have a policy on this matter.
