Hi,

I made a terrible mistake and would like to make amends. I have received a letter from Southeastern - "Provisionally authorized for prosecution."

I am writing to express my sincerest apologies for my actions and failure to pay for my train fare on the 16th June. I deeply regret my choices and understand the gravity of my actions. I acknowledge that this was a mistake, and I take full responsibility for it.

On that day, I travelled from Crawley to London Waterloo East without purchasing the appropriate ticket for the entire journey. Instead, I had purchased a ticket from East Croydon to London Waterloo East. I realise now that I should have considered the consequences of my actions and chosen a more responsible course of action. In the past, I have taken out loans to cover the cost of my season tickets and monthly passes for my daily train commute. I have attached copies of my previous tickets with this letter.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I assume this is your draft reply to the letter asking for your account of the incident?

If so, it's a good reply, but two comments:
1. don't call your action a mistake unless it was. It was simply wrong (as we used to say).
2. add a sentence to the effect that you would be very grateful if they would consider an out of court settlement.

Always better to call these events an “error of judgment” rather than a mistake, it just reads better.
