Southeastern MG11 and address change

Hi Everyone,

I received an MG11 in early March for fat evasion ( it was extremely silly decision on my end and I did not realise the consequences were so bad - I did some short fares for a month or so but previously have a history for years of paying full fares for the same journey )

Anyway I have not heard back from them since then and I’m quite worried and confused about what to do as I have now changed houses so am no longer able to access mail sent to the previous address. Should I call them to clarify this?

I would really like to get this whole thing over with as it’s been a source of a lot of stress!

Have you not put any Royal Mail postal redirection in place?

I understand that the SouthEastern back office revenue / prosecution process has completely fallen apart and that they are not following up cases, and instead letting them pass the 6 month deadline for prosecution.

I do not think you are anywhere near the first person on this forum to say they have heard nothing.

I would suggest that you take no action unless you hear from them, except:

• Check post and emails carefully in case you hear from them
• Always ensure you have the correct ticket for your journey in future

EDIT BEFORE PRESSING POST: The fact you may not have recieved any potential letter from SE (given address change) may be a cause for concern. With most Train Operators we would suggest informing them of the change in address as there is the risk you could be prosecuted without prior warning if you ignored their letter. However, with the chaos in SE prosecutions, I doubt they will take any action in your case at all.

I could do the Royal Mail thing but it seems quite pricy - at least £45 and then it depends on the duration too. It’s been about 4 months since MG11 so do I need to look out for things for 2 more months and after which not? Can they still send something after?

The price of sorting out postal redirection is an unfortunate by product of being caught fare evading.
If you had not been evading you wouldn’t be in this sort of situation.
If you want to be sure you can know about potential prosecution and avoid them you need to receive post for up to 7 months from the incident date I would suggest.

You could write to them and advise them if change of address (I’ve got a template letter I could locate for you if needed)

But that risks waking them up before the 6 months prosecution deadline so you have weigh up if you want to do that.
