Southeastern 'Kids for a Quid' Tickets

Hello All,

The southeastern web site states that their Kids for a Quid tickets can be bought online but I can't find any way of doing this.

For example when I try to buy a ticket on the southeastern site for 1 adult and 1 child, then select an Advance fare for the adult, the Child ticket then comes up as also an Advance fare for half the adult ticket cost instead of just being £1.

Anyone on here know how I can buy these tickets online (on any site) ?

I've bought them from the local ticket office before, but it's a pain as three times out of four it's not open when I go.

I don’t think they are paired with Advance tickets. You will need to buy an off-peak ticket.

Southeastern's Kids for a Quid T&Cs state that you can buy one with an Advance adult ticket, as well as it showing up online (except in OP's case) with an Advance.

What time are you travelling? There's an off-peak restriction on Kids for a Quid tickets (the same as the relevant Off-Peak ticket between the two points).

Thanks. I've just tried again for a different date and now it's offering me the £1 ticket on the return journey but not the outward. Is that the off-peak time restriction? 10.55 seems a strange time to have a restriction.

As far as I can tell, you shouldn't actually be offered the £1 child fare on the return trip. Kids for a Quid only applies where the full journey is completed on SE services. Your Ladywell to Margate example incorporates a Thameslink leg. I am not sure what is going on with your return leg, but I don't think it is correct

Id guess its because one of you connections on the outward leg is not a Southeastern service (Thameslink London Bridge to St Pancras?). Kids for a quid is only available where the journeys wholly on Southeastern. The return journey probably goes via Tonbridge or Chatham.

Thameslink have their own Kids for £2 scheme where they are the fare-setter, so you might be able to do it for £3 with some creative splitting

Can a kid for a quid ticket be purchased from a ticket office? If so, I suggest OP to go to a Southeastern station ticket office to buy a London - Margare (plus high speed) £1 flat fare kid return, instead of trying to get a ticket for the kids online.

The 10.55 departure from Ladywell goes via Bromley South to Margate and uses a Thameslink train from Catford to Bromley South so Kids for a quid is not valid.

Thanks all for the feedback. I hadn't spotted that the journey I was looking at had a few stops on a Thameslink train in the middle of two Southeastern trains.
