southeastern Incorrect automated station annoucments

Travel on Southeastern coastbound at Chatham on a 395 HS1 on the aproach to Chatham the automated annoucement always says now aporoaching Gillingham! Causing confusion amongst passengers. This happens on every service i have been on using a 395 unit, since last December when the new station opened at Rochester I assume this is a cause? But why have Southeastern not fixed this by now? presume its not a simple fix?

Don't 395's have driver or guard announcements? If they do, they could always use that until it is fixed...

Occasionally the driver / guard makes a pa announcment advising passengers. But all to often they remain silent. I wonder if after 9 months they have any intention in bothering to fix the error at all?

They carry on-board managers who do not undertake safety critical duties but can make announcements and check tickets.

Ah ok. I didnt realise. Will the train still run if an On Board Manager is unavailable?

They must be present for the train to run.

Perhaps someone with more knowledge than I have could explain if there are any agreed exceptional circumstances where the train can run without an OBM (disruption, etc.)?

Yes they have in-cab monitors and operate on a DOO basis.

Whether the requirement for the OBM is purely union agreed or due to HS1 regulations I'm not sure...

On a similar note, somewhile ago I was on a bus where the ibus system had malfunctioned, at the stops instead of saying "157 to Crystal Palace", it was announcing "157 Normanhurst Road Palace". On the approach to stops the announcments were a mixture of the correct stop name and seemingly random stops from other routes, also it was announcing "road, road" at random intervals. A few days ago I boarded and the exact same faults were evident, so presumably it was the same bus, not repaired, or else another bus had developed exactly the same fault.

AFAIK it would be down to Hitachi to reprogram the PIS. I have heard this occurence and several of the OBM do announce for Chatham. But i have yet to see a passenger who is confused.

Couldn't the bus driver disable the system ? I don't know how much training they have on the vehicle systems.

In the case of the Javelin it's just Chatham that's the problem and only in the coastal direction.
