That’s great to hear - thank you. I wonder what drop out rate there is - either people not making the grade, or deciding the job is not for them? Slightly mercenary question! Clearly the salary is basic throughout the training period, but at what point is the salary increased to the usual rate?
No worries. My understanding is that the vast majority make it through training school, but some realise it's not for them once they get to depot. It was mentioned at my induction that (on average) for every 1 vacancy there are hundreds of applicants. In the 12 months I've been at Faversham, I'm not aware of any conductors leaving, so it would seem turnover rate is relatively low, although this may vary by depot. In terms of salary, whilst at training school it's basic at around £21.5k, rising to around £26k (depending on location) when you work your first train by yourself and then 12 months from when you work your first train by yourself it increases to full salary.

So great news. I’ve signed a contract with SouthEastern to start as as trainee conductor on 9 November. Really looking forward to it. I’m guessing initial training may be done at home via the wonders of Microsoft Teams - it’s all yet to be confirmed. I guess I’ll find out over the next week or so.

Congratulations! I hope all goes well, do let us all know how you get on! :)

How has the process been since medical? Did the October course not go ahead?

Apparently there was a confusion over the dates. There was one course starting in September but I couldn’t give the required notice to my existing employer, and it was cutting it fine with getting the results back from the medical. Not that I was concerned about that. Uniform has all been ordered. I understand that I should get a call in the first few days of November.
What’s your situation?

That's fair enough, at least you're getting started now. :)

I am still waiting for a medical date, not heard anything yet, just can't wait to get started!

I waited approximately 7/8 months between my interview and medical. Hope this helps.

Hey, just thought I would check in and see how your training went? Or did it get postponed due to the restrictions? Hope all is going well.

Hi! Started a couple of weeks ago. So far all the training has been home based using Microsoft Teams with 7 other newbies. Had the odd day out to collect uniform and kit though. It’s all good and we’ve built a good support network.

That’s great to hear the course still went ahead and that you have good course mates. Hopefully there are more courses soon!
