Depending on who buys them and their intended purpose, I think this technically counts as preservation.

Has a preserved unit/partial unit of any former rolling stock been used as some form of accommodation before?

A 466 probably stands a better chance of being preserved fully over a 465, as one only needs space for 2 carriages. Presumably this is why the East Kent Railway couldn't preserve a full 365. If a heritage railway was able to take something of a 465/466 on, even for static/non-motive power use, I'd punt on the Kent & East Sussex railway, given it's expanding to Robertsbridge so there maybe more space and a case to add to the collection.

A battery powered 466 would be neat. Though if I preserved an SE networker I’m sure I’d choose a BREL, even if it was incomplete. I just prefer them.

It’s off-topic, but I suspect it is actually down to contractual reasons why the PTOS vehicle wasn’t preserved. Due to the timing of their procurement the 365s were subject to some now-unique commercial arrangements.

Plenty of old coaches and even goods vehicles have been converted to accommodation, but I’m not sure about multiple unit vehicles. Railway Heritage Register Partnership at http://www.cs.rhrp.org.uk/se/search.asp would be the place to check, but you can’t search on current use.

There's a good Jago Hazzard video about this - the old 1983 stock trains are sat on a remaining stump of the line to Broad Street. Other old LU carriages have made it into schools and colleges.

I understand that a number of the carriages now in use on the Isle of Wight Railway had been rescued after having been scrapped years ago and recycled as holiday homes. Indeed, last time I was there, IWR had preserved one of these carriages in its recycled form.
