Southeastern Advance Off-Peak and Suppliment for HS1

So is a Advance Off-Peak with a railcard to London terminus, ex. St Panc = £12.80 *roughly. (From the Kent coast)

If I bought a return suppliment £2.90 with railcard - my question is, is it legal.

And if not, what are my ticketing rights?

No mention on the SET website.

There is no such thing as an "Advance Off Peak"; it's one or the other. Also I don't know where your origin is.

A supplement for HS1 is just their way of doing a (change of route) excess fare.

I will assume your origin is Dove, the Off Peak Return (SVR) is £19.85 (with Railcard) Rte Not Valid on HS1, the Off Peak Return (SVR) Rte High Speed is £23.15. The excess (XS) fare should be £3.30 for both portions however instead of an XS they do supplements, and the price of the supplement - in this case - is 40p less.

I have had to assume you want an Off Peak as there is no Advance Off Peak and assume the origin as Dover (well, it's on the Kent Coast!) your actual ticket type e.g. Off Peak Day and actual origin may cause those figures to vary.

There's no such thing, and if such a thing was invented it would make a mockery of ATOC's "simple" ticketing (well, they've already made a mockery of it but this would make it even worse...)

I don't think Southeastern sell advance tickets for their own services in isolation. You can use their trains as part of the &Connections for other TOCs advances. From another thread it appears as though they sell a super off-peak day return from places like Dover to a named terminal (rather than any London terminal) for £20. Not valid on HS1 of course.

Didn't think so :P Would save me a shedload (and also drive National Express's Kent franchise out of business most likely, as most of their business is journeys from the major towns to London for under a fiver!)....ah well, I can dream....

They do indeed (although weekends only AFAIK) - although I very rarely use them as most of my journeys are through London, not to it, and hence valid on HS1!

There isn't a Dover to Charing Cross Off Peak Return (SVR).

The closest I can find is a Dover to Charing Cross Super Off Peak Day return (SRR). That is indeed £13.20.

But if SET charged excesses, and issued all tickets to London Terminals, then they would have charged you the correct change of route excess. However it looks like you changed route and changed destination.

Let's face it, their ticketing is a total and utter farce and a complete mess.

But given the appalling attitude of the person who is in charge of pricing (who clearly isn't well liked by other pricing managers), combined with the various reports of poor customer care when it comes to ticketing generally with SET, it is not surprising it's a shambles.

However it's good to hear that you got a good deal

Looking at "The Manual" that fare is for a Super Off-Peak Day Return to Charing Cross, which can NOT be upgraded to permit travel on HS1.

To be able to upgrade, you'd need to purchase an Off-Peak Day Return, at a cost of £19.50 with Railcard, and the supplement would be £3.20 for an Off-Peak Day Return with your Railcard. (The Single supplement is £3.30 with a Railcard).

Alternatively, purchase the Off-Peak Day Return that's valid on HS1 in the first place, which is £22.65 with a Railcard.

SET are like the weather with me, it is accepted 90% of the time, 10% I am charged an excess fair of £30 etc.

But its confusing, no outline.

But Super off-peak rather than advance was the name I was looking for!
