What 465/9s are still out of service awaiting some form of repair/maintenance job, apart from 465921?
Look at this. I am updating this over time. Currently it is 465902, 465913 and 465920. 465921 is apparently due to go to Slade Green and then Doncaster for repairs in March, according to comments on my youtube channel. Also note that 920 has had the first class branding removed at one end, and 912 has regen since coming back.

Not sure if they are needing repairs but 926 and 903 have been dumped on the wall siding at Victoria for about a fortnight now.

Passing by there yesterday 465903 is still there, but not attached to anything else, so they must have just been there for routine stabling without being needed. 903 also still had interior lights on, whereas 921 stabled behind it very much has them off, as well as having the buffer facing-tailights off.

Saw two driving carriages from a Class 465 at Wabtec Doncaster missing their cab doors and one driving carriage had blue film along the front windscreen. Any idea what unit it could be?

more like tears of sadness
More like tears of joy from 99% of the people who actually have to use them. Don’t forget the love of Networkers on this forum is very unrepresentative of the general public. They are pretty knackered and most people would like new trains.

May actually be actual tears if the sets that replace them have no toilets and priorities standing room over seating.

I'm not sure about that, the Desiros seem pretty popular (6 car sets would be welcome). The Networkers have had their day, horribly hot in summer too. Even as an enthusiast, the things I liked about them have gone/worn off.

First one, sure, if you say so.
Second one though, had this not been the consideration with Thameslink as it was, then people would still have to miss trains due to not being able to get on, as was the case with 319 and Electrostar operated services in the core at peak.

And besides, going “Nyyyyyyerrrrrrrrr…OOH OOH OOOOH,” is not a great reason for keeping a train around, whether it’s amusing to listen to or not ;)

Most of them don't make that noise

It's more about the seat comfort and ride quality. The 376s are a downgrade vs a 465 having awful seats and the dodgy Electrostar ride. They are in better nick and don't smell like p**s though.

Aventras are a load of crap an I'm not convinced they'd be an upgrade from a passenger perspective vs giving the 465s a deep clean and refurbishment. They'd end up being just as nasty as the 465s after 5 years anyway!

I think you’ve misunderstood slightly. We weren’t doing the usual 376 vs 465 debate, but discussing whether or not customers would appreciate or resent a design focus on standing room rather than more seats.

This is drifting off topic though - partially due to me thinking this was the SE Fleet Replacement thread in Speculative Discussion, and it isn’t - so we can continue that there instead :)

Actually something I did want to ask was how many 465/9s still have First Class signage, either at both or one end?

And that, apart from being real people movers, is what I meant by the thing I liked about them having gone (well, mostly gone and the 365s sounded better to me anyway! And I'm sure the Networker door slams were also better as a kid). Still certainly not worth keeping them for.

I don't really understand the dislike for 376s on here. I've never had an issue with them, and with a lack of refurb, I think they've held up very well. I prefer using the 376s on the Hayes line if I'm honest and would welcome them on the Southern network. Aventras I'm skeptical of - I'd much prefer a big Desiro City order, but at the same time, I could see merit in having the same fleet as SWR for South London suburbs.

From what I've seen all of them (apart from some maybe in Doncaster I can't verify) have had the words "First Class" removed, although some still retain the yellow stripe on the outside.

The likeness I've often heard is to describe their sound as akin to an F1 car accelerating, albeit with a different tone of course.

Not that it will be much help but when i was heading to training I believe on Tuesday I definitely heard a unit using regen. I couldn't check to see if it was a 466 or /9 but If I remember correctly the Headcode was 2L07 running a 05:40 London Cannon Street to Dartford Service

Oh that unit would have been 465919, went on it last week and it was using regenerative breaking.
