I know the capacity of that siding is limited by 465921's presence, but can't a shorter unit formation still fit in there infront of it for overnight stabling, and then make sure anything in the way when 465921 needs moving is out in service? I'm pretty sure the unit still has the rear lights on the cab facing Victoria lit.
Can get another 8 in on top

Yes let’s not go down the 365 route any further please. It’s not for this thread. Thanks :)

Without turning this into another refurbishment debate, considering they are on the way out anyway and with the current financial situation of the railway, why would they need new seating? The most I can see happening is a very light 'refresh' at that, consisting maybe of a deep clean and some very minor changes, maybe new seat covers if you are lucky. I doubt a new livery would even be done. Bodywork or corrosion related work would make more sense, if they are planning to keep them in service for quite a few more years.
Yes bodywork is. Have information from sources and friends who used to work at Washwood Heath. Trouble was Body shells was made abroad unlike the ones made in York. Body shells came across the English Channel etc and got damaged by sea saltwater during journey on the boat.

To be fair the 365s weren't much better than the 465s anyway, with the same seats and a similar interior layout. The first class was nothing special and the tables were pretty pathetic - the 375s that (indirectly?) replaced them were better in pretty much every way other than first class provision. Although it was disappointing that SE didn't put more effort into the 465/9 conversions, such as carpet, tables in standard and potentially a conversion to 2+2 seating.

I think I've heard that before too, would make sense as to the corrosion.

I still find it baffling why imported body shells should have been an issue, as surely you protect them for the journey. After all other Washwood Heath assembled stock didn't have the same issues?

Trouble was the body shells got imported over by boat. Then by rail from Dollands Moor to Washwood Heath. However on the boat journey they got covered in sea water and sea salt. No one thought of protection ie covering them up in a tarpaulin and with protective covering.
Ideally the bodyshells should have been made in Washwood Heath like the York bodyshells was made in York.

Would never have happend given their main requirement was still capacity. That and they've always had some metro work still.

That's true, but amusingly the 375/9s could have filled that void as they would (had the refurbishment as I suggested actually happened) been more suitable to metro workings than the 465/9s. But then again, that just makes the whole situation weirder because as it stands now we have a weird subfleet of uncomfortable metro units that are used on 2-hour mainline services as opposed to a weird subfleet of uncomfortable metro units that are used on 2-hour mainline services.

But other stock made at Washwood Heath also had imported bodyshells. I've not heard of any corrosion issues with the 95 and 96 Tube stock for example

I mean they were built afterwards and live a much quieter life spending alot of their time underground/not really exposed to the same elements.

465912 has regen on since coming back. 933/934 were dragged to Doncaster a month ago, and 902 2 weeks ago.
Will be interesting to see if any of the 3 come back with regen on also.

Keep a eye out on the next day or so.
Could be a possible move taking a 465 move back South on either Wednesday 21st December 2022 or Thursday 22nd December 2022. As reported in another thread on Tuesday 21st December 2022.is a 315 move to Booths Rotherham. However after the move on Tuesday 21st December 2022.old live rail record and realtime trains websites shows the locomotive having a overnight stay at Doncaster yard next to the works. Possibly a early indication of a 465 following on midweek sometime.
But will need to check again in the next day or so.

OK. 465907 and 465929 were dragged a few months ago; I'm pretty sure they have come back but not 100% sure. If they have, they may have regen on. Again we will have to see.

465929 doesn't have it enabled. The units going to Doncaster for bodywork repairs has nothing to do with Rheostatic braking being enabled on 465912.

The move could be 465923 going to Doncaster and being swapped - I went on it just yesterday and it sounded rather creaky and sorry for itself. Will be interesting to see if they do swap it with 465933/934.

I passed two 465 being hauled towards Gillingham earlier at Sole Street. Didn't see the unit numbers.

Are they from storage or just up there for repair?
If it's from Doncaster then it was repair; storage would primarily be Ely (although 465912 spent some time in Ely before it was repaired in Doncaster and recently returned to service).

What makes you say that? Do you know why it was enabled on 465912?

465920 went to Doncaster from Gillingham on the 22nd.

Looking at the driving coach attached to the loco, the first class decal as well as the orange stripe above the first class windows, and the navy blue on the front set of doors are all missing on that end, on both sides of that coach.

Has that coach been replaced with one from a 465/2? Or perhaps the body repairs necessitated removing those details? Is it me or does the white paint look a bit cleaner in that area. I can't really make out the coach number in any of the photos I've found, but it sort of looks like 65719, which according to ukraillog.co.uk is the correct coach for 465920.

How interesting!

That coach is still the right one for that unit, it’s had those decals removed now that First Class isn’t in operation on Southeastern. All the 465/9s will look the same (on both ends) in time.

Ah, thanks. Do you know if they'll do the same to the 375s?

Does that not make the /9 subclass redundant then because these would then just be /2's in theory

They still have the former first class seats. And look nicer inside than the /2s
Thankfully, the removal of first class doesn't appear to have been especially well publicised - my commute this morning had an empty first class section (besides yours truly), and a standing room only 'standard class' area.

On lines like the Dartford lines, 1st class never existed so that section (along with the one on the Thameslink 700s) was the place to go :D
