Does anyone living in the Wessex region remember the small siding near Southampton tunnel? I believe this was only ever used by track machines to stable but very rare to see one in there. Over time it began to look rather decrepit and by about 2009 looked pretty much disused and was overgrown. When the Southampton tunnel works were going on, Network Rail ripped up this siding as it was needed to store maintenance equipment/supplies as well as ballast, new, cable rail etc. but it still retains a mainline connection and the area now looks bare. Does anyone know if there are any plans to re-instate this siding and if so when?

A picture of the siding I am refering to can be found in the bottom left hand corner of this picture:

Somewhere I have a photo taken just around the corner from where the works scaffolding went. I can recall seeing a tamper on the spur once, just once! I assume it was originally the connection to the line into the power station, or am I talking about the wrong connection?
