Evening, Southampton triangle was lifted in 1974, for those who are not to sure where this was it was situated East of Southampton Tunnel/Southampton Central, if you were to continue from there bearing right as you left the tunnel you would of ended at Southampton Terminus (which had 6 Platforms) or the docks.
My question is I notice in some late 60s & early 70s pics that it had a 3rd rail in both directions from Northam Station , how far did this run down & was there a reason for it being 3rd rail ?, Im sure that 3rd rail didnt go as far as Southampton Terminus, may be this could have been for Class 73s & 74s Boat Trains. Any Ideas
