The Southampton - Nuneaton gauge enhancements to allow the larger containers to operate on Network Rail. Does this open up the network to any European mainline designs to find work over here?

Just curious if anyone was aware of any designs that could theoretically be deployed here. The reverse of UK locos (20s, 37s, 56s, 58s, 59s, 66s, 77s, 86s, 87s, 92s et al) being put to work abroad.

No - all it does is allow the higher containers, and no more.

We had a thread on this recently (which I can't find), basically it's all about achieving clearance for the top corners of the boxes - the overall height is only raised by a couple of inches compared to normal GB coaching stock with a curved roof, and there's no significant extra width allowed.
