Planning in travelling from Southall to Oxford (with a Network Card) this coming Saturday. Ordinarily I travel Via Reading, but engineering work means a coach from Hayes to Maidenhead. Journey Planner also shows the times going via Paddington and Marylebone, but says no fares available. Any suggestions please?

new.trainsplit.com suggests either a combination of a Southall-Ealing Broadway return plus an Ealing Broadway-Oxford return, or a combination of a Southall-Haddenham & Thame Parkway return plus an H&T Parkway-Oxford return. NB you will have to be on a train that is scheduled to call at the point where you switch from one ticket to the other. Those combinations are in the £23-£24 range, compared with £12.70 (or thereabouts) for the direct Southall-Oxford return. All prices include network-railcard discount

A Z1-6 Travelcard (£8.30) and Boundary Zone 6 - Oxford return (£12.70) would be cheaper with a total of £21, and in this case you don't have to be on a train that stops where you switch between tickets.

You could also simply buy a London Terminals to Oxford Off Peak Day Return @£17.55 and use Oyster / Contactless (or get the bus etc) for connecting journeys to Marylebone.

Bus to Heathrow Central Bus Terminal, coach from there. Has the added advantage that the coach can drop you off in a number places directly in the city itself, not the edge of it as per the station. And the coach has working wifi.
