I'd been considering a Friday post work move all week, but the awful weather almost stopped me bothering. In the end I made myself go after finding out what my last three 144's were allocated. A quick scribbled down plan showed I could get two of them in, so after I finished I made my way to Adwick station.
I could have made the 1455, but I've cleared the EMU's that form the Leeds-Doncaster stoppers so it made sense to take my chances on the Adwick-Lincoln service. This was due to leave at 1515. Unfortunately for me today it was formed of dud 142018.
The guard sold me my ticket, which has changed name since I last purchased one. I'm sure there's been a price increase too! It saved me buying one at Doncaster, but I had plenty of time anyway as I had to wait for the first of my 144's to turn up. In the meantime I took a few shots around the station. 67016 was thunderbird, and one of the Wabtec shunters was shifting Abellio Greater Anglia 321301 around the yard after refurbishment.
144008 turned up as hoped, and I took it all the way to Sheffield. Well over ten miles so don't need to bother with that one again. It wasn't a great journey, with a very unhappy child screaming as far as Rotherham. I did clock 66773, 66705 and 66752 at Roberts Road. Also saw the roof bonnet which belongs to 66723, which I worked out from a TOPS list (the only Barbie liveried one in Doncaster that day). The rest of it presumably was inside the shed. I'd nipped out to Greggs before catching the train, and didn't have a carrier bag so I was already getting fed up of carrying a baguette in my coat pocket. I ended up having an early tea and eating it on the way to Sheffield.
At Sheffield the plan was to get to Elsecar to meet the other required 144 heading back towards Sheffield. I had a bit of time, but before I could weigh up what to do I spotted winner 158791 on a Leeds express, so took this to Meadowhall. A short wait here on the same platform put me onto the train I was originally meant to catch, which was dud (for the fifth time...) 144018.
I got off at winner station Elsecar, a steady +10 gave me plenty of time to cross the road bridge and get into position for winner 144006 back to Sheffield. Just 144001 to go now. Taking this through to journeys end at Sheffield was just enough to nudge it over the ten mile marker so that's another one to forget about. No doubt it'll turn up everywhere I go now.
I'd seen a winner 142 doing Doncaster-Sheffield shuttles earlier whilst on 144008, so I knew I could catch this back from Sheffield but there were a couple of options available for another Meadowhall leap. First option was 185136 and 185101 (incidentally the first time I've seen a pair in the new livery), both duds so let them go. Second was 158851 heading for Leeds, it was on seven miles so I was tempted, but couldn't be bothered changing platforms at Meadowhall so decided to stick with the 142 all the way. Got a couple of pics at Sheffield, including a 37/31 top and tailing on beer festival shuttles to Barrow Hill (why am I not there?!).

At Doncaster I had 15 minutes or so to get the train back to Adwick, but there were a few interesting moves due through so I ended up staying for another hour. I considered scoring Kirk Sandall but the outward move would have been very dud 142064 (it turned out the return would have been 142086 which was required). I stayed put at Doncaster and saw 800009 on its maiden run, 66727 for the first time in Maritime livery, 66728 a minute after 727, and 67007 on a route learner from Goole to Doncaster. After a short delay due to waiting for a late running 91117 to leave ahead of us, 322482 took me back to Adwick.
