Dear all,

I am reserving a train ride back to London (Waterloo) from Wareham on 28/5/18
However, there are only 3 trains that day - why is this so?
https://www.traintime.uk/index.php?from=WRM&to=WAT&datetime=201805281414
Considering my family of four will all have their bikes with them, those trains will be pretty crowded. Any advice?

This is the Bank Holiday weekend so, going on recent SWR/Network Rail form, the Timetable for the day hasn't been finalised yet.

It s not possible to reserve seats or bikes on any SWR device from Wareham. in fact it is not possible to reserve seats on any SWR service.

On the bank holiday Monday 28/5, swr will run a Saturday timetable and it appears there are no planned engineering works on the Weymouth/Wareham to London route that holiday weekend.

However, there is an ongoing issue about train times being uploaded to online journey planners for weekends and holidays with actual and accurate times often only being available at short notice.

Just using the national rail enquiries app shows only 1 am and 3 pm trains from Wareham to o Waterloo but there are also a couple of links saying that they cannot provide accurate times at moment, but hope to from 14 April.

Come the day, I'd expect there to be an 2 trains per hour from Wareham to Waterloo as per normal Saturday, one a bit faster than the other. The late afternoon trains will be busy with people going back to London after the long weekend especially if good weather.

Back to seats, while trains from Dorset will be busy on the Monday afternoon, getting seats from Wareham should be ok as it's still relatively early in the journey. Bike space is limited at best of times and getting 4 on together isn't impossible but will be challenging.

I thought you could just pick up a bike in London nowadays, so why take it with you with all that hassle?

I get the feeling they will have been away for the weekend in Dorset with their bikes.

Even having said that, Boris bikes are not suitable for say a long ride along the Thames path either financially or from a performance point of view. Boris bikes are designed for short trips, though reading in today's evening standard they may not have a long term future.....
