Do SWT run 158 & 159's on the Waterloo-Salisbury route?

Indeed they do, also all the way to Exeter (mainly 159s), they also use 158s on the Salisbury - Romsey (via Southampton) services, 159/158s on a few peak extra workings from Winchester towards Southampton, 159s from Portsmouth to Basingstoke and Southampton in the mornings, also a 158 on the Lymington branch during the week.

Who knows! Rather complex I understand, as SWT cannot actually use it themselves due to lack of CSR, but presumably it has freed up the unit that SWT would normally hire to FGW every day?!

Obviously EMT also have spare units sitting around while other TOCs are desperately short; must be a Stagecoach thing! :roll:

EMT don't have spare stock! That's SWT. The other weekend 5 Skegness trains were shortformed, but we can still manage to hire a 158 to SWT? Sounds about right. Always thinking of their passengers, EMT

The lack of first class and the leading door lockout system were mentioned there, but as you say CSR may also be relevant, that didn't get raised at the time.

Very true. That and the constant use of a single Dogbox between Derby and Crewe.

It's unusual to see a 158 West of Salisbury. It happens but it's the exception rather than the rule.

Whenever a 158 is running between WAT-SAL, it is attached to two 159s, making an 8 coach train. I've seen this train formation numerous times.

Or 2x158s and 2x159s making a 10 coach train, there is 1 train in a morning.

There's also a few each day that run between SAL and WAT as 5 cars...

I think most practical permutations except 4 car and 7 car occur in normal passenger service over the course of a day.

It's an SWT thing. I'd bet there's a damn sight more slack in SWT's fleet than EMT's.

Spend a day on Derby - Crewe or Nottingham - Skegness, I'm certain you wont feel the same then

That was only to replace the 142's - overall I think they only have two more class 150 carriages than they did 142's, so no they most definately still don't have enough units.
