The other half and I are going to Carmarthen for a little holiday. We're going out on Saturday, and returning Monday (9 days). We're taking bicycles, and will be exploring Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire by means of bus, train and bike.

The Freedom of South Wales Rover will give 4 days train and 8 bus travel, but is a little overkill in terms of the area we'll be covering. Then there's the West Wales Day Ranger, which I think will only cover rail travel. Are there any other similar tickets people can think of that may be applicable for this break? Particularly a one-day bus and train ranger ticket, like the North Wales 'Rover'.

I believe First Bus offer a day ticket for a given area, I'm not sure what their coverage beyond Carmarthen is though. Could that be combined with a rail ranger?

Indeed - £18.50 for a week covering:

Timetables are below:

Annoyingly you have to go through all 14 pages of timetable by service number - which aren't on the map...

Note: this ticket is not valid on the fast Cardiff-Swansea "Shuttle 100" service

Hi there

For buses this may help :

For unlimited travel on any bus service within Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion ask the bus driver for a WEST WALES ROVER TICKET. Tickets are valid for all-day travel (one day only) at the cost of £6.00 for adults, £4.00 for children. A child accompanying an adult holding a Rover ticket can travel for £3.00.

Thanks all. The West Wales Rover (bus) ticket may be useful, in supplement to the West Wales Day Ranger (rail) ticket.
The First ticket won't be much use as we're mainly going to be north or west of Carmarthen, and as we expect to be travelling by train on six of the nine days, a 4-in-8 Freedom of South Wales Rover would only give us marginal savings.

Sorry, I'm a bit late finding this thread!

The West Wales Rover Ticket (for buses) is a better bet than the First ticket because it covers almost all buses in West Wales. Not only that, but First now run fewer buses than previously and have lost some routes like Carmarthen to Lllanstephan (for the castle).
