Hi everyone.

I'm trying to find out as much as i can on South West trains. I need to what trains work on South West trains routes. I know that 455 work services to Dorking but thats about it. If someone could just do a list of what stock works what routes that would be great. Also how many carriages are on each service as well.

Also
Where are the train crew depot's ?
Where are the train depot's?
Do any trains have a trolley service or buffet on?
Whats an average do involve for a SWT guard, routes, trains etc?
Which if any services are diagramed to have additional carriages added for peak times?
Is there any other interesting bits of info you think i'd find usefull.

I've have done a bit of looking around on the internet myself, but i am keen to learn more about the company.

Thanks in advance LilLoaf.

This is by no means comprehensive and the chances are someone else will post while I'm typing, but here goes.

All Waterloo suburban services apart from Windsor and the Hounslow loop are operated by class 455s. The Windsor and Hounslow trains are high capacity 450/5s. Reading services are operated usually with 458s.

Waterloo - Portsmouth line, including Alton, is primarily 450s, quite a few 444s as well though, but they are a more common sight on Waterloo to Bournemouth and Weymouth. Waterloo - Poole stoppers could be either, not 100% which is more common.

Portsmouth to Southampton is usually a 450, though I believe a couple of peak services are 158s as the 450s are needed on the Waterloo routes.

Class 158s are used on the Salisbury - Romsey "figure of 6" service, while their cousins the 159s are used on long distance routes out of Waterloo on the west of England line to Exeter and beyond.

Hope I've helped :)

The Reading services are nearly always 2x458 coupled together in semi-permanent formation. Commuter route, so no trolley.

Hey,

1. The swt train crew depots are Waterloo, Wimbledon Park, Woking, Staines, Strwberry Hill, Guildford, Fratton, salisbury, Basingstoke, Northam, Farnham, Weymouth & Bournemouth.

2. The train depots are Wimbledon Park, Fratton, Northam, Bournemouth & Strawberry Hill, Clapham yard, Guildford, Farnham & Staines. There may be more but i can't remember them all as i am only based at woking.

3. The 444s have a buffet built into them but it is hardly ever used as the trolly service is prefered as it is a brought to the passenger and the trolly services are on the 444s most of the 450s on the pompeys, pooles and weymouth services and they are on the 159 services.

4. An average day for a guard varies from depot to depot an average day for me (based at woking) could envolve passing to guildford running a 455 up to waterloo via epsom then down to woking bay back to waterloo for a pnb then down to hampton court back to waterloo then down to guildford via epsom and pass back to woking. but at woking i sign 455, 444, 450 & 458 and sign almost every suberban route (minus dorking) alton, basingstoke, hounslow rounders, weybridge via hounslow and stains, waterloo to aldershot via ascot, pompeys and guildford ascots.

5. I know most of the alton services run 12 car 450s and the pompeys are the same during the peak other wise all suburbans run 8 cars that i know of im not sure of the resst of the network if there is any thing special.

there isn't really much else to know about the company really or really nothing comes to mind at least :P unless you have any more questions you want to ask that is?

but i hope this helps you know a bit more about swt.

Don't forget the two 421's on the Lymington Branch (Brockenhurst-Lymington) and the 483's (1938 stock) on the Island Line (Isle of Wight).

Always? I was on a Windsor service from Clapham Junction on Sat and it was formed of 2x455s.

Under Normal service Monday-Friday SWT stock runs as followed,

The 455s run the metro services e.g. Woking up bay (or the stoppers), Dorking, Guildford via Epsom, Guildford Via Cobham, Hampton Court, Shepperton, Waterloo to Waterloo via Strawberry Hill & Chessington South, and during the peak they also run Guildford to Waterloo via Woking.

The 450s (with the First Class) work the Basingstoke stoppers, Alton, Portsmouth Drirect line, they do the occasional reading but not that offen from what i hear (i'm not too sure as i don't sign the reading road) & Guildford to Ascot. They also run the occasional Weymouth, poole and bournemouth services.

The 450/5s or the HC units (without First Class) run the windsor services, Weybridge Bay Via Hounslow, waterloo to Waterloo rounders via both Richmond and Brentford.

The 444s Run the Portsmouth Harbour via Basingstoke, Weymouth, Bournemouth & Poole services, and during the peak they run the Portsmouth via guildford, the occasional Alton and Basingstoke stoppers, but again i don't run these very often so im not too sure they may run more services.

The 159/158 run the west of england services the salisbury, Exeter St Davids, Plymouth, Yeovil Junction, Gillingham (dorset) & Paignton and as said the Salisbury to Romsey service.

The 458s run the readings in a 8 car formation but also run on the Guildford to Ascot line as a 4 car but sometimes run as an 8 car from Aldershot to Waterloo Via Ascot.

and yes as was said and as it stands the two class 421 slammers opperate on the lymington branch but for how much longer i'm not sure.

This is as i say under normal service but under engineering arrangements this does change and the 455s do run to windsor have know to run to readings too.

Please correct any where i have made a mistake such as teh 444s, 159/158s and some of the 450 work as i am mostly on 455s and 450 suburban runnings.

Cheers,

Alan

The following, I believe, are also 450 booked:

1813 Waterloo - Shepperton via Twickenham
1906 Shepperton - Waterloo via Wimbledon

As for Reading, the 1635 from Waterloo and 1812 return are both booked 450, along with the 2335 from Waterloo.

8x455 Windsors is a regular formation when there is an event at Twickenham or engineering work.

On strike days 12x455 is not unknown!

SWT have indeed run 12 car 455s there was only one problem with that and that is SWT 455s don't have Selective Door Opperation (SDO) so they will open either open one set of doors i.e. local door or all the doors so they can only run certain routes like the woking stoppers calling at woking, west byfleet, byfleet & new haw, weybridge, walton-on-thames, esher surbiton & waterloo and there were a lot of instances where all the doors were opened on short platforms so they will not be doing it again in the for seeable furure but as everything this could and more than likely change but well see.

Really? Whoops! I used the 1812 from Reading every Monday in January and into February until I got my new job; never once was it a Desiro!
