Is there any advantage in buying an 'Evening Out' ticket in advance, or is it just the same price buying it on the day of travel, from the ticket office or machine

(Journey London Waterloo to Guildford)

thank you

No advantage other than convenience of not having to queue on the day, with no price difference.

Any issues with potentially claiming Delay Repay in the event of service disruption? (Or not, as the case may be).

No, nothing. Arguably its better to have bought in advance of any service disruption. If you bought a ticket after it was clear there would be disruption you may be less likely to be compensated or compensated less.
