Been there done that.
Got through and got an offer. Let me know if you need advice.

i applied earlier this month and got the assessment info package yesterday with some maths .. ticket checking ...using of information practice test etc and i have been practicing on it...however is there anything i need to do to make me stand out...all advice needed lol

Where do you live?
I live in South. I had some practice materials from my Guard assessment which I could have given you. They are more advanced.
I would say practice your materials. Practice some basic comprehension. Read news articles etc and get people to ask you questions. Ticket checking is fairly straight forward, work out what can be sold when etc and you will be OK. Some advice I would give is work as accurately and at a good pace.
On the day... turn up on time. Have all your items like ID, NI number and photos ready to give to the person carrying out the assessment. Ask them lots of questions about the role etc on the day after the assessment and show an interest so they remember you.
When you get to interview stage give me a shout and I will be more than willing to help.

I'm not surprised by that unfortunately! It took a while when I went through the process, probably a lot of to and thro'ing between HR and local managers to organise the interviews!
Hang in there though, all recruitment in the Railway is slow, but it's well worth waiting for.

i remember at the assessment center in southampton....when other applicants asked the lady when should we hear back from them...and then she said *couple of weeks* because the managers will need to sort out dates for interview etc... a guy sitting behind me wasn't happy because he is unemployed and wanted something asap.....

Yes it's certainly not ideal, unfortunately anyone still going through the Recruitment process is at the whim of Recruitment and the local managers. I was pleasantly surprised when I went to an LM assessment where the interviews were held straight after the assessments (same day) for anyone passing the assessments!
i think they should do all assessments that way ..i also applied for southern (customer service vacancy) on the website it states assessment and interviews to be held in feb 2014...however my application still states in process..
lol definitely nt ideal if your unemployed and looking for a job because the process will make you look else where ..and by the time they come round to you ur already comfortable in another new job...-__-
