The Welsh Governments capital infrastructure budget is currently tied up mainly in road construction and in the dualling of the heads of the valleys roads. The concept of the metro has gone down well and some funding has been released toward it. However with plans for an M4 relief road, link roads to Cardiff Airport and Cardiff Bay and countless other calls for bypasses it seems that some hard decisions will need to be made if the metro is to advance.

Well since the mindset of the last 60 years is to build more roads it doesn't look good...

Its a start - hope its the shape of things to come.
Another 900 homes to be built in my locality (Llantwit Fardre/Beddau) which will probably mean another 1000 cars at least on the roads. Im not against house building but I hope they get the infrastructure right this time...

I do think the Beddau - Fairwater line is likely to happen at some point in the future. That said there are already local residents kicking up a bit of a fuss over it all (bloody nimbies in my opinion)

I was down there near Newport the other day and i must say the Professor's plan for the southern dual carriageway was brilliant and would save over half a billion, which could finance a good portion of rail improvements. His road proposal actually takes people where they want to go in Newport. Most traffic, as evidenced by rush hour queues for the tunnel, is actually local.

That's probably why it will not happen, I suppose.

That's probably why it will not happen, I suppose.

Most road traffic is local in nature and motorways near built up areas just become a local road with one or two junction short distance journeys on them. The same will be true if they build the so called relief road.

Possibly as far as Creigiau - thats as you say if it gets past the NIMBYs or BANANAs (Build Absolutely Nothing Anywhere Never Again) lot. I doubt nothing will happen in the foreseeable future. Traffic will get worse and they will put on a few extra buses to shut people up.
