Here's a selection of photos taken at the South Tynedale Railway last weekend. It is a narrow gauge line which crosses the Northumberland/Cumbria border in the Pennines at the southern end of an old branch line from Haltwhistle to Alston.

Locos on display at Alston station.

Departing Alston station in a cloud of steam and smoke.

"Helen Kathryn" running round at Kirkhaugh to form the penultimate train of the day to Alston.

Stanhope" and "Naklo" stand at Alston station oready to depart with the last train of the day to Kirkhaugh.

Thanks :)

Good to see something a bit less common
I'd not been up there for years and saw they were having a steam gala, so thought it would be worth a look. There used to be a few disused stations on one of the other branches up there that I was going to have a look at but didn't get time. I'll have another trip up that way sometime.
