Hi everyone, newbie so please excuse me if this thread should be elsewhere...
Now, I am by no means a trainspotter. I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a 303 and a 311 to save my own life. So I was hoping you guys could help me answer something.
What I certainly am a fan of however is abandoned and unexplored places. Noticing how overgrown South Leith Yard was getting, I decided one morning (5:30am!!) to pop down with my camera and get some snaps.
So, I hopped the wall on Seafield Road to take a look. The south side of the yard is totally overgrown, the FHA Eurospines look like they'll just sit there and rot for eternity.
The north side of the yard is vegetation-free, but this isn't surprising given it has had more recent use. My assumption had been that the demise of the Cockenzie Power Plant would mean the regular coal freight would cease to run. There wasn't a single piece of rolling stock on the north side of the yard. Basically, my question is...was I wrong? Did I unintentionally stray onto a still-active railway line?
If anyone's curious, here's a few of the pics taken earlier this month; the lastest I can find on the internet were from 2005-2007 when there was nothing in the south siding. (click 'em to enlarge)
