the term Javerlin is giventour 2012 service from St pancrus to stratford internation and ebbesfleet international to Straford Internaltional Rather then the units and as a matter of fact i have a steam driver lissence and a deasil driver lissences and going for my maineline in september also i do tell every member of "joe publlic" the corrrect terminoligy for the 395's and there service HS1 Faversahm - St Pancrus international

ffs... you're either a liar or you blagged your way through the interview process because your spelling is terrible so how did you fill in the application forms properly?

JAVELIN not Javerlin
ST PANCRAS not St Pancrus
LICENSE not lissence
DIESEL not deasil
PUBLIC not publlic
MAINLINE not maineline

and that is ignoring some too. The least you can do is proof read what you write before you post it?

Yes, but don't forget he is 19 and has said that will be a driver before the end of the year

I thought you had to be 21 before you could be a driver?

they are on 3 yearly contracts and also have penaluty fairs advalibe to them and i work on gateline (barrier) at gravesend and moving up to driver befor the end of the year

I don't know where you get your information but no, they (we) are not on three yearly contracts. They (we) are on full time contracts. I also know that no more drivers are being recruited in 2010 on Southeastern.

I have no problems with passengers calling the trains "javelins", however the "does this train go to Kings Cross?" can get slightly annoying

But it is still quicker to just say yes, otherwise it is you that looks bad by saying no it is St Pancras.

It does remind me of some of the stupid questions asked by tourist in Edinburgh. A couple of gems.

How long is the royal mile (I understand it is slightly longer than the mile)
What time should I be a the castle for to see the 1o'clock gun?

To be fair, you might ask as in 'what time should I realistically get to XX in order to see YY at 1pm', taking into account likely queues etc.

I'd probably ask that, then realise how silly the question sounds if taken literally!

Stick them on the GEML. Needs some sort of recognition I think. Use them on London - Chelmsford and Colchester services.

Or just leave them in store in case on or more units fail, which is becoming a growing concern for new stock being introduced these days. *Cough cough Class 377/5s.

These Javel... sorry class 395's... what are they like? Anyone got a proper objective view on them? Not the usual "it's not as cool as an HST" drivel that we normally get - pro's / con's, etc?

I think overall they are pretty good for what they are. I dislike the doors -the buttons feel small and recessed and for that train I think there should be buttons on both sides of the door. My real hate about the doors though is the fact that they open inwards. If I put a bike wheel up against the door on the inside, it can't open. And there's not so much as a single strap for a bike on the whole train. Those are the only gripes I have with them.

My biggest complaint is how loud they are whilst in the tunnels out of London, even my noise cancelling headphones had problems stopping that noise.

I think that could be down to the gradients in the tunnels and the wind pushing against the body of the train.

I wonder, if the doors were plug instead of slide the sound may have been quieter.

They are intended to be lightweight, and as such had to sacrifice on sound proofing in order to achieve the weight they wanted.

The doors does has been used by the Japanese and are air sealed.

I admit the noise through the tunnels is quite loud, but I like it, especially as power is applied in the first tunnel.

the term Javelin is given to our 2012 service from St Pancras to Stratford International and Ebbsfleet international to Stratford International rather then the units

When the units were first introduced they were Hitachi Javlins. Nothing to do with the route and without the "e"

There is no reason therefore why passengers would not continue to refer to them as such. Or are you equally rude about passengers referring to catching the Eurostar?

The info on Hitachi's website would disagree with that. As far as Hitachi is concerned, it's always been Javelin. I would suggest that somewhere down the time there was a spelling mistake.

395 005 completed post-repair testing yesterday and entered passenger traffic today; it led 395 001 on the 17.10 off St Pancras.

And yes, I was on board to Ashford and thus finally cleared the class for haulage.:)

I use these trains regularly and I don't think that it is too noisey inside especially in the tunnels. I agree it is fun to hear the train accelarating in the tunnels especially after getting on from Stratford Int.

I've used the service once, astounded to discover they ran the Kent coast but needed to get back to London quick, so paid the extra.

Was rather underwhelmed, felt like being in a Desiro only faster. Apart from it's sleek exterior, probably not meant to be a 'classic' enthusiasts train, but simply a fast run from Ashford to the Olympics & St Pancras.

Sorry to say I much prefer the interior of Electrostars!

If only they could replace the manchester to Scotland services; was on one the other day and they are hopelessly slow and are a local, and at best a regional train. Why they were ever commissioned for 200mile plus journeys on 125mph railway is beyond me. Bring on the 395's if they go spare!!

The whole thing is like first class until they get rid of the supplement for the HS1 bit to London.

1st class? When I went to Whitstable (from Cambridge) for the weekend, the off-peak return (using a railcard) was a mere 50p extra via HS1.

Isn't it possible to get around the supplement when travelling from further afield - on the basis that you get 'any permitted' tickets?

Only the poor people who live there have to pay the extra as their normal tickets are 'NOT HS1'.

Quite- there aren't "route HS1" tickets , there are "NOT HS1" tickets. But from Cambridge the difference between "Any permitted" and "NOT HS1" is tiny.
