South Eastern Electrostars on diversion through Catford - seen heading south at 1644. Didn't catch the destination but it's unusual to see these units on this line - I presume it was a diversion. Anyone know the reason why?

Didn't think that was that unusual. Admittedly it's a while since I went through, but over the years I can well remember going from Ramsgate to Victoria on CEPs & VEPs and being diverted through Catford.

The Catford loop line is used as a regular route for trains between Shortlands Junction and Victoria. This creates a 4 track route including the direct route via Penge. The old South Eastern sectional appendix included the note for both Brixton and Shortlands that drivers should accept a signal cleared for either route if not stopping at intermediate stations. Coincidentaly I was at Catford at lunchtime today and an up Maidstone and a down Gillingham came through both formed of 375 stock

There was a time when the Ashford service used to stop at Peckham Rye and Denmark Hill quite regularly in the nineties.

Fair enough, but I must admit - I see this line daily out of my window and this is the first time I've seen a SouthEastern electrostar go by. You get the occasional Thameslink electrostar (what with the new stock coming in in Dec) - but this is the first SE electrostar I've seen...

I've seen quiet a few 375's going along the catford loop, but I saw one going through eynesford the other day, that's just normally 319 & 465/6 territory.

The old (now discontinued) Faversham - Victoria services used to be 50% 375 and often went through the Catford loop.

There is no new stock coming in Decemeber. The few trips the borrowed 377/2's do will be always between Bedford and Brighton. So the current situation will continue with TL units until May 2012.
