I went to SDR's diesel gala for the first time on my visit to the railway.
Considering a return fare gets you unlimited rides on the line, which is 9 miles I beleive?
Great loco roster - I can't recall all the loco's on display but I'll list them soon.
It continues tommorow (Sunday) with limited steam services.
One of the locomotives broke down at roughly 5:20pm, I'm not sure which.
I think the only visiting locomotive was a 47 from Advenza Freight.
So I was very impressed. I was gonna go on the miniature railway which costs a cheap and cheerful 50p, but in order to avoid waiting 2 hours at Exeter for a connection to the Tarka, the last train to Totnes/Littlehempston in time went before the miniature train arrived, which was annoying. I think they're might have been something wrong with one of the steam locos?
I'm well considering returning tommorow. Great stuff for ya money. Old rail mags for 20p a peice lol.
The only complaint would be the price of the pasties!
On my return journey from Buckfastleigh, a loco was hauling an old DMU. I was the only one except for two others in the rearmost unit, so I sat at the very rear. It was like being a guard, so close to the seethrough cab lol.
------
It was annoying as I missed my connection at Exeter anyway. I caught the 18:11 from Totnes rather than the originally proposed 18:20. I didn't really think about the difference of an extra three stations on a 158 compared to an express route with an HST!
PS. Waving?
I couldn't help but notice fellow enthusiasts doing somewhat wierd things with their arms outside the carraige; some sort of fanatic wave, I've seen spotters do this before, can anyone tell me what the hell was going on? I opted not to copy others since I didn't know what it represented. For all I know it could've been a freedom of gay rights gesture or something lol.
Anyone else go?
Thanks,
Hakzi.
