We hadn't seen 'real' steam since the mid-1960s, so you can just imagine our delight!
I’ve never seen it and it’s one of the few regrets in my life really. It must have been wonderful.

That's pretty well all there was back in the 1950s when I first got interested in trainspotting, but we just took it for granted at the time.

Thanks for this Ron. Didn't get to Natal until 2007 on a Dave Rodgers tour. Fabulous country for steam. Just a shame we only had four locos to play with.
