Hello to all!
I have been wondering for some time listening to the rhythmic hollow hammering or striking sounds of the french steam locomotives heard in the 1965 movie THE TRAIN with Burt Lancaster. These sounds are unique and are heard throughout the movie and usually heard while the locomotive is stopped or stalled. In the last scene of the movie after he shuts down several valves in the cab this hollow sounding rhythmic beat is slowed down and as the train is stopped. Can anyone please elaborate and explain this oddity to me? Below is the clip from Youtube:

Thanks to all that wish to post a reply and steam is truly fascinating!
