What is the public transport provision like here? I'm particularly looking to visit the site of the Pan-European Picnic.

You could try here

You'll probably need the "helykozi buszok" - but I don't know where exactly the picnic was held.

I think you best bet would be to ask the tourism office.

This is the list of local bus lines in Sopron.

And interurban services here

The picnic was held here

Where they state You can find the "Pan-European Picnic Memorial directly at the border near Sopronpuszta, 5 km from Sopronkőhida"

It looks like the closest you can get to Sopronpuszta from Sopron is Fertőrákos on bus 7205, or Sopronkőhida on local buses 13, 13a and 33 from Sopron. It's about 3.5km from Fertőrákos or Sopronkőhida to Sopronpuszta . The 7205 runs between every 30 and 60 minutes.

Timetable here

The 13 runs at 06.20 and is essentially a school bus.

There is also the 33 bus

The other way of doing it is to come from the Austrian side, from the village of St Margarethen-im-Burgenland, and walk the 5km to the border from there. There are regular buses from the Burgenland capital of Eisenstadt to St Margarethen
