Sony Vegas Studio 9.0...pausing a video?

Hello all,

Just a question, do you know if you can 'pause' a video on Sony Vegas Studio 9.0 (or if you can do that on another video editor, that will do to)?

What I mean my 'pause' is stop the video whilst going through the timeline, I suppose a better way of saying it is making a clip a 'still'

You know on videos (a good example is the Brighton to Hove route learning video) where the clip is played and then 'paused' so the narrator can talk about the signs, limits and show the text...and then it plays on...can you do that in Studio 9.0, Adobe Premier or anything??



Any help appreciated, I have tried googling that for help, put paused results come up with using the pause button, and stills usually comes up with pictures importing. Is there actually an official word for this???

James, yes you can, probably with most video editors, though it is not straight forward.

What you do is run along the time line to a point where you want the pause.
take a snapshot (at the best possible resolution) then split the track on the time line at exactly the same point. Move the two split parts apart drag the snapshot into fill the gap left.

This should be a piece of cake... in Windows Movie Maker you can take a snapshot of the clip, snip it in two pieces, place the still in between the two pieces... and bingo. If you can do it in WMM, you must be able to do it in something like Sony Vegas.
