'Something suspisous' on the lineside between Aberystwyth and Dovey Junc.

I am currently sitting in Aberystwyth having missed my bus 'connection', which should have involved a wait of about 3 quarters of an hour here, but instead we missed it by about 10 minutes. Reason: train terminated at Machynlleth due to sighting of something suspisous by the line between Dovey Junction and Aberystwyth. Onward road transport (a single coach) was not sufficient to take everyone, so the X28 service bus was routed via Machynlleth station to pick up the remainer (I assume it was running as a scheduled service, since it waited for quite some time at several bus stops).


Anyone know what could be by the lineside to cause cancelations? My guess is trespassers.

I, too, had been wondering what had been going on.

I saw the NRE report of buses being used but the NRE website now reports the "Service Disruption" as cleared. It's described as having been due to "a problem near the railway causing disruption near Borth."

What else is considered important enough to cancel trains though? Unless it's something like a landslip which may have undermined the track.

The ATW website lists one train as no longer calling at a fair number of stations, at both ends of the Aberystwyth-Birmingham run, but gives overhead line problems as the cause (which is only the cause of half the dropped stations)

Yes, per the NRE website, "Overhead wire problems are causing disruption at Smethwick Rolfe Street."

Hopefully someone in the know will be along shortly. Nosiness is a terrible affliction.

Two unrelated problems I think

I was on a train was due to leave Wolves for Bham Intl at 1311 on Saturday. It was initally cancelled at Wolves, and then reinstated as far as New Street (diverted missing SGB) where it was cancelled again. I did wonder initially whether it had been reinstated because there was no room at Wolves for it to stay, but perhaps ATW wanted to get it to New Street in case it couldn't come back and ended up stuck at Shrewsbury (probably did anyway)

Thank you for the information. Is Llanbadarn ABCL the level crossing on the main road near Aberystwyth Morrisons and very close to another level crossing which carries the narrow gauge Aberystwyth to Devil's Bridge over the same road?

Additionally, I've just found this item which I believe covers the story. Is this referring to the same incident?
