Something noisy on the Harrogate line...

No idea what, but something noisy just went southbound through Horsforth, was heading towards Leeds. Heard it from my house about half a mile away. Is it track maintenance, or does anyone have any freight info?

Going south is downhill, so if it was thrashing then it was something very underpowered! (or had a signal check maybe). What sort of noise was it?

A very loud engine, a bit whiny, and some horn tooting - this was at midnight too.

Tamping machines tend to make a lot of noise when they move. I think they sound like a very loud vacuum cleaner when i've seen them coming through Carnforth. Could it have been that?

Something noisy on the Harrogate line? You sure it wasn't a Pacer?!

If there was horn tooting at midnight then there must have been P-Way staff about (or someone on the line) so as suggested it was probably a track machine.
