Someone Sat on the Track

I was on the 18:36 Manchester Picc to Euston and there was an announcement telling us there was someone sat on the track south of Stone and we were to be diverted. I assume he wasn't there for the view. But it was a novel thing to come over the PA.

A less common announcement than some I agree, but sadly this sort of incident is far from rare. It would more usually be referred to simply as a 'trespass incident' though. Diverting services where possible helps to reduce the queue of trains, which sadly can be rather long if the powers that be decide to take the 'gently gently' approach.

The incident referred to by the OP happened in the Coventry area. It just goes to show the effect such matters can have on train running.

Though i'm not certain how this train was directly affected...

As far as I can tell, the train was diverted via Stafford, which suggests that the problem was on the Stone to Colwich section. Are you sure that it was the incident at Coventry that's being referred to?

Happend to us on monday night, someone sitting under the train at Streatham common. Delays to trains around 22.40 ish. My last train to worthing ran 18 mins late,but we got it to 10 mins down by worthing. others were up to 40. At one time the whole BML board at Victoria was just all Delayed.

And yes, told passengers, the delay was due to someone sitting under a train.

I actually think that these two descriptions are better than the more usual sanitised to the point of ambiguity type of announcements often heard in cases of disruption or contingengy. At least one can envisage exactly what is going on unlike on Saturday when the 16.25 Leicester to Lincoln Train was cancelled between Nottingham and Lincoln "Due to a request by the operator", whatever meaningful message that may convey.
